DETROIT -- Detroit Juvenile Court Saturday authorized the placement in a foster home of a newborn boy abandoned in a snow-covered garbage dumpster.
A court spokesman said an order was issued 'placing Baby John Doe in foster care under the supervision of the Department of Social Services.'
The baby, its temperature so subnormal doctors couldn't record it at first, was in good condition Saturday in an incubator. Hospital officials could not say when the infant would be released into the social agency's care.
More than 3 inches of snow covered the dumpster where Andrew Potts, 20, found the baby, turning blue in 20-degree weather, Wednesday. Potts was attracted by faint whimpers, and almost dismissed them as cat's meows.
Detroit police are focusing their search for the mother in the east-side, low-income Detroit neighborhood where the baby was found.
