NORWALK, Conn. -- Jimmy Arias of Grand Island, N.Y. and Andrea Temesvari of Hungary have been named the most improved tennis players of 1983 by Tennis Magazine.
Arias, 19, in his fourth year on the pro tour, won the Italian Open and U.S. Clay Court championships and rose from 22nd to sixth in the rankings. Arias won more than $250,000 in 1983, more than double his previous year's earnings.
Temesvari, a 17-year-old in her second year on the pro circuit, also won the Italian Open and U.S. Clay Court championships and rose from 31st to ninth in the rankings. She earned over $137,000 this year, an increase of $90,000 over her 1982 total.
