HOUSTON -- The Houston Oilers waived 10-year guard Ed Fisher at the veteran's request, a team spokeswoman said Friday.
Fisher, 34, had played with the Oilers since the club claimed him off waivers from the Kansas City Chiefs in 1974.
'With the young, good offensive line the team has put together, I did not see any future here,' Fisher explained about his request to be placed on waivers.
'It was just in my best interest and the club's as well. This way, I have a better chance of catching on somewhere else before training camp.'
Fisher started every game for the Oilers between 1978 and 1982.
The 6-foot-3, 259-pounder was a star lineman at Arizona State.
