KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Dan Quisenberry, who set a major league record with 45 saves in the 1983 season, has added another award to his post-season list as unananimous selection for the 1983 Bruce Rice Royals' Pitcher-of-the-Year.
Among Quisenberry's other post-season awards are the UPI American League All-Star Team, Sporting News Fireman-of-the-Year and the prestigious Joe Cronin Award for Distinguished Achievement.
Quisenberry, 29, wins the Bruce Rice Award for the third time in his career and for the second consecutive season. He was selected after the 1980 and 1982 seasons and joins Dennis Leonard as the only two pitchers to have won the award three times.
In 1983, Quisenberry compiled a 5-3 record, a 1.94 ERA in a league-leading 69 games over 139 innings in which he allowed 118 hits, 35 runs (30 earned runs), 11 walks and 48 strikeouts.
