MILWAUKEE -- Guard Sidney Moncrief of the Milwaukee Bucks, saying he was satisfied with the progress of his contract talks, showed up for the start of training camp Friday.

'The talks are going fairly well,' Moncrief said. 'As long as progress is being made, I see no reason not to play.'

Moncrief is entering the fifth year of a six-year contract he signed as a rookie out of Arkansas. The Bucks are trying to extend the contract.

The Bucks later acquired guard Kevin Grevey from the WYWORD:ton Bullets for their second round draft pick in 1984.

Grevey was the Bullets' first round choice in 1975 and has played for the club for eight seasons. He started out on the injured list last season, but was activated in December and averaged 7.2 points.

Bucks Coach Don Nelson said the Bullets would continue to pay a large portion of Grevey's salary.

The Bucks have been looking for a shooting guard since Brian Winters announced his retirement last week and Grevey is considered a fine outside shooter.

Team officials said 6-9 forward Ted Kitchel failed to pass a team physical Friday and will no longer practice with the team.

Bucks officials also said guard Phil Ford will sign a one-year contract with the Houston Rockets. Ford averaged 6.8 points a game and 3.8 assists a game last year in his first season as a Buck.

The Bucks team physician said it's no longer safe for Kitchel to play basketball with a re-injured back. He first sustained the injury during his college days at Indiana University. He is scheduled to return home Saturday to discuss the situation with his agent and his personal physician.

Kitchel sas named Indiana's Most Valuable Player in 1982. He averaged more than 17 points a game during his junior and senior year at Indiana.
