HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The David M. Winfield Foundation, headed by the New York Yankee outfielder, Monday announced a five-year, $6-million partnership with Hackensack Medical Center.

Winfield said the foundation, designed to help underprivileged chidren, has pledged $250,000 to begin a fund at the 500-bed teaching hospital.

The projected programs include a 'wellness' center for children and adults, an exercise center for children and senior citizens and a nutrition program for those with special needs.

Winfield and the Medical Center also will develop two facilties - the Dave Winfield Institute for Children and the Dave Winfield Fitness and Wellness Center.
