HOLLYWOOD -- Actress Fay Spain, who portrayed Darlin' Jill in the movie 'God's Little Acre' and Lee Strasberg's wife in 'The Godfather, Part Two,' has died of cancer. She was 50.

The film and television actress died in May but her death had gone unreported for reasons unknown, industry officials said Thursday. She is survived by her husband, Philip Westbrook, a son and four stepchildren.

Miss Spain was seen working in a New York City tie shop by one of columnist Walter Winchell's agents. She was subsequently mentioned in acolumn, and that led to television roles in the early 50s.

She made her screen debut in 1957 in 'The Crooked Circle,' then went on to parts in 'Al Capone,' 'The Beat Generation,' 'Hercules and the Captive Women,' 'Thunder Island,' 'Flight to Fury,' 'Dragstrip Girl' and 'Welcome to Hard Times.'

She was a guest on several TV series, including 'Gunslinger,' 'The Millionaire,' 'Cheyenne,' 'Ben Casey,' 'The Restless Gun,' 'The Greatest Show on Earth,' 'Police Woman' and 'Alfred Hitchcock Presents.'
