SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- National Semiconductor Corp., citing an economic resurgence, announced Monday it has resumed plans to build a $100 million fabrication plant in Arlington, Tex.
Construction on the plant had been halted more than a year due to an industrywide decline in semiconductor sales.
The 290,000-square-foot silicon wafer fabrication plant, when fully developed, will exceed $100 million in investment, the company said.
'The upturn in the economy, coupled with strengthening order rates from our customers, allows us to move forward with our plans,' company president Charles E. Sporck said.
The foundation for the plant has already been laid.
Limited production will begin within two years, the company said, with employment at the plant expected to exceed 1,500 by the late 1980s.
