LOS ANGELES -- Two reporters were subpoenaed to testify next week before a county grand jury investigating attorney Robert K. Steinberg, who claimed he saw videotapes of government officials in sex acts.
Reporters from Radio News Central and the Los Angeles Times said Thursday they were ordered to appear before the panel Aug. 16.
Several television stations and at least one network complied with earlier subpoenas to turn over all broadcasts about Steinberg since the July 7 slaying of Vicki Morgan, longtime mistress to presidential confidant Alfred Bloomingdale.
Steinberg is believed under investigation for possible misdemeanor charges of filing a false police report when he told authorities the alleged tapes were stolen from his Beverly Hills office last month.
Steinberg told reporters July 11 that he had obtained the videotapes after briefly counseling Marvin Pancoast, who has pleaded innocent to charges he beat Miss Morgan to death with a baseball bat.
On July 12, after prosecutors asked for the tapes, Steinberg reported them stolen.
