The rock group The Police were presented Thursday with Billboard magazine's Number 1 award for having the Number 1 single and LP on the charts.

The awards party was held by Musicians Magazine, owned by Billboard, which had its own reason to honor the group. The issue with a cover article on The Police, written by the group's guitarist, Andy Summers, was the magazine's all-time best seller. Guests at the party included Foreigner, Joe Jackson and the B52s.
