PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Phoenix heavyweight Tony Fulilangi will face the sternest test of his boxing career when he fights Jimmy Young in a 10-round bout July 31 at Phoenix Civic Plaza.
Fulilangi is 22-0-1 with 21 knockouts and took a 10-round draw May 16 with Tony Perea of El Paso, Texas.
Perea (16-1-1) is Texas state heavyweight champion who lost to Earnie Shavers on a TKO.
Young, 34, has won 13 of his 14 fights since 1981. His contest with Fulilangi is the first in 1983. Young drew attention when he lost to Muhammad Ali in 1977 with a 15-round split-decision.
With a 30-10-1 record, Young has lost to Ali, Michael Dokes and Ken Norton, but beat George Foreman on a decision in 1977.
