MONTREAL -- Ted Sator, a speed skating expert with five years coaching experience in Sweden, has been hired as an assistant coach for the Philadelphia Flyers, Flyers coach Bob McCammon announced Monday.
Sator, 33, a New York native, played one season with the New York Raiders of the World Hockey Association in 1973 before heading to Europe as player-coach of the Swedish second division champion Vexjo club and later manager-coach of the first division Rogle club.
'Ted has one of the most outstanding young hockey minds I have ever encountered,' said McCammon at the four-day NHL annual meetings. 'He is also a power-skating expert, which gives us a dimension we have never had.'
The Bowling Green University graduate joins McCammon and former Flyer goaltender Bernard Parent on the Philadelphia coaching staff.
