LOS ANGELES -- Actor Lee Majors, television's Six-Million Dollar Man, became part owner of a $6 million operation Tuesday when he purchased part of the United States Football League's Los Angeles Express.

Majors, who played football at Indiana University, said he will try to use his celebrity status to generate more interest in the team.

Alan Harmon, co-owner and president of the club, said Majors' purchase was not a desperation move. Though the team's attendance is not what owners expected it would be, Harmon said the team owners are prepared to lose $6 million over three years if necessary in the expectation of ultimately making a profit.

The size of the ownership share by Majors, currently starring in 'The Fall Guy' TV series, was not disclosed.

'I came out here in 1963 to coach football,' said Majors, formerly married to actress Farrah Fawcett. 'Football has always been a part of me. It's a wonderful change for me. I'm hoping to help the image of the city and the league.'
