UNIONDALE, N.Y. -- Mike Bossy scored his record-setting 60th goal of the season at 11:14 of the third period Saturday night to lift the New York Islanders to a 6-3 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins.

It was the fourth time Bossy has scored 60 goals, tying him with Phil Esposito, and marked the first time in NHL history a player scored 60 in three consecutive seasons.

Pittsburgh led 3-2 entering the third period, but Butch Goring at 7:31 and Billy Carroll at 14:52, scored short-handed goals sandwiched around Bossy's score. It was Carroll's first goal of the season.

New York took a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Bryan Trottier and Tomas Jonsson. Pittsburgh rallied to take the lead at the end of the second period. Randy Carlyle scored on a 90-foot shot from the Pittsburgh side of the red line at 3:20 against goalie Roland Melanson. Peter Lee scored at 6:24 and Rick Kehoe at 10:29.

Referee Denis Morel assessed an unusual attempt-to-injure head-butting penalty on Pitsburgh's Gary Rissling after he and Langevin engaged in a fight. Both players received five-minute fighting penalties and Rissling received a 10-minute match penalty.
