SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Bullwinkle's Family Food 'n Fun, a prototype restaurant featuring electronic games and animated cartoon characters, announced Friday it had signed franchise agreements to expand in the United States and abroad.
The first Bullwinkle restaurant will open in Singapore in October, company president David Brown said.
A Hong Kong restaurant will follow in February.
Bullwinkle's first franchise restaurant will open in Edmonton, Canada, in May. Thirteen others are scheduled to open in Canada during the next five years.
In the United States, Bullwinkle's plans to open restaurants in nine different cities this year.
Brown said the company anticipates opening 35 to 40 restaurants annually for the next 10 years.
The restaurants, he said, would follow the format of Bullwinkle's prototype, which opened in Santa Clara on June 14, 1982.
The restaurant has a varied menu and offers electronic games, a computerized water show and animated versions of children's cartoon characters including Bullwinkle the Moose, Rocky the Flying Squirrel and Dudley Do-Right.
The menu includes fried chicken, sandwiches, pizza and a salad bar.
Brown said income in the Santa Clara restaurant has exceeded $40,000 a week. Full year income, he said, was expected to exceed $2 million.
