TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired designated hitter-first baseman Cecil Fielder from the Kansas City Royals in exchange for outfielder Leon Roberts.

Fielder, 19, spent the 1982 season with Butte of the Class A Pioneer League, where he was voted as the circuit's top designated hitter.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pound native of LaPuenta, Calif., led the Pioneer League with 20 homers, 176 total bases, 28 doubles and a .664 slugging percentage.

Fielder, the Royals' fourth-round selection in the June 1982 free agent draft (secondary phase), has been assigned to the Florence Blue Jays of the Class A South Atlantic League.

Roberts, 32, hit .230 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 71 games with Texas and the Blue Jays in 1982. He was acquired from the Rangers on June 15.
