Larry Drew scored a career-high 33 points to help...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Larry Drew scored a career-high 33 points to help offset a milestone performance by Houston forward Elvin Hayes and give the Kansas City Kings a 115-108 victory Friday night over the Rockets.

Hayes played 39 minutes in the game to move past Wilt Chamberlain for the most career minutes in NBA history with 47,898, and he also scored a season-high 35 points to move past John Havlicek into fourth place on the NBA's all-time scoring list with 26,401.

Ray Williams scored seven points as Kansas City outscored Houston 8-0 over the first two minutes of the third quarter to move from a one-point halftime deficit into the lead for good at 65-58. Drew added 13 points in the quarter to build Kansas City's lead to as many as 11 points.

The Rockets rallied behind the 12 fourth-quarter points of Hayes to twice pull within a point, the final time at 107-106 with 2:46 remaining.

But Mike Woodson scored four points and Drew added his final basket in a 6-0 run that pushed Kansas City's advantage to 113-106 and ran the Kings' home record to 16-4.

Eddie Johnson added 16 points as the Kings beat the Rockets for the second time in as many tries this season. Allen Leavell added 24 points for Houston.
