Kathleen McNulty Rooney, wife of Pittsburgh Steelers' owner Art...

PITTSBURGH -- Kathleen McNulty Rooney, wife of Pittsburgh Steelers' owner Art Rooney Sr., died Sunday. She was 78.

Mrs. Rooney, recovering from a broken leg suffered Nov. 12, became ill Sunday afternoon and was taken to Allegheny General Hospital, where she died two hours later.

Cause of death was not revealed.

Mrs. Rooney was born in Pittsburgh and lived most of her life on the city's North Side.

The Rooneys celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1981, and Mrs. Rooney made a rare public appearance with her husband this past October at the Steelers' 50th anniversary celebration.

Funeral arrangements, still incomplete, were being handled by the Thomas B. Devlin Funeral Home in Pittsburgh.

Survivors include Mrs. Rooney's husband, five sons, 31 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a sister.
