TORONTO -- Jodi Yvonne Rutledge, Miss Manitoba, was crowned Miss Canada 1983 Monday night.
The 21-year-old custom designer took the title over 35 other contestants on a nationally televised broadcast co-hosted by Dominique Dufour, who was Miss Canada 1981 and first runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant the same year.
Lilianne Pelchat, Miss Montreal and Miss Toronto, Loretta Sullivan, were first and second runners-up, respectively. Esther Almela, Miss South Shore, was third runner-up.
Miss Rutledge will receive a $1,500 scholarship among other prizes and benefits. The outgoing Miss Canada was Karen Baldwin, who also holds the 1982 Miss Universe title.
