NEW YORK -- CBS continued to dominate the summer doldrums of television last week -- both in the prime time entertainment department and in news coverage.
The network claimed seven of the Nielsen Top 10 spots to post a rating of 14.2 and an audience share of 26, leaving ABC in second place with 13.4 and 24 while NBC brought up the rear at 12.1 and 22.
The CBS 'Evening News' topped the ratings at 11.8 and 24 -- three full share points ahead of ABC's 'World News Tonight' which scored 10.0 and 21. NBC's 'Nightly News' remained locked up in the cellar at 9.6 and 20.0.
The Top 10 programs for the week ending Aug 29, according to the A.C. Nielsen Co., were:
1. M-A-S-H (CBS).
2. Too Close for Comfort (ABC).
3. Three's Company (ABC).
4. Filthy Rich (CBS).
5. The Jeffersons (CBS).
6. 60 Minutes (CBS).
7. WKRP in Cincinatti (CBS).
8. Alice (CBS).
9. Trapper John, M.D. (CBS).
10. Hill Street Blues (NBC).
