LONDON -- Several British servicemen were injured in a missile accident at an airfield on the Falkland Islands, the Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

Sidewinder missiles were fired accidentally from a British Harrier jet as it was taking off Tuesday from the airfield at Stanley, the islands' capital, a spokesman said.

News reports said 11 soldiers were hurt, but the spokesman could not confirm a precise casualty figure.
