MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Federal Express Corp. has expanded overnight package service in Canada under an agreement with Cansica Inc., a Montreal-based firm that will provide trans-border, door-to-door pickup and delivery.

The wholly-owned Canadian company replaces a previous agreement between Federal Express and Air Canada, which provided ground pickup and delivery services from 1979 until May.

Officials said Tuesday Cansica expanded full-service stations from selected cities in Ontario and Quebec to Montreal, Toronto, Edmonton, Calgary, Winnipeg and Vancouver.

The service, which began June 1, provides overnight trans-border service for Canada for the first time.

Simon Caviezel of Montreal is Cansica's controlling shareholder and president.

The Canadian service, which is authorized to use the Federal Express name, provides overnight, door-to-door pickup and delivery of small packages and documents among 250 communities.
