LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired pinch-hitter Jose Morales in a trade with Baltimore Wednesday, sending the Orioles minor league third baseman Leo Hernandez.

Morales, 37, is an eight-year major league veteran whose 99 career pinch hits make him the leading active pinch-hitter in the majors.

He is seventh on the all-time pinch-hit list. Dodgers' coach Manny Mota is first with 150.

To make room for Morales on the roster the Dodgers sent outfielder Ron Roenicke to their Albuquerque Triple A farm club of the Pacific Coast League.

Morales was expected to report to the Dodgers Thursday.

Hernandez, 22, has played in the Dodgers' farm system since 1978. He hit .298 with 25 homers and 91 RBI last season in San Antonio. In 18 games this season he was batting .313.

He will report to the Orioles farm club in Charlotte, N.C.
