BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. -- Songwriters Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach, who collaborated to win best song honors at last week's Academy Awards, were married Saturday night.
A spokeswoman for their public relations firm said Sunday the couple decided to get married after their song 'Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)' won the Oscar Monday night for best song.
'We had to do something to top the Oscars,' Miss Sager said.
The private ceremony took place at the Beverly Hills home of record producer Neil Bogart and his wife, Joyce, the spokeswoman said. The only other people in attendance were singer-songwriter Neil Diamond and his wife, Marsha.
Miss Sager, 34, has composed such hits as 'Midnight Blue,' 'Nobody Does it Better,' and 'When I Need You.' She previously was married to record producer Andrew Sager.
Bacharach, 52, has written a long string of hits, including 'What the World Needs Now,' 'Do You Know the Way to San Jose,' and 'Raindrops Keep Fallin' on My Head,' which won the Oscar for best song in 1970.
He previously was married to Paula Stewart and actress Angie Dickinson.
