MONTREAL -- Montreal Canadiens goaltender Richard Sevigny, who just missed two games with a leg injury, broke his left hand in practice Thursday and will be sidelined indefinitely.

It was the second major injury to a Montreal goalie in nine days.

Denis Herron, who suffered a concussion after colliding with a New York Islanders player in a game Dec. 29, has been ordered by team doctors to rest until next Monday.

Sevigny, 24, returned to the Habs lineup Tuesday to back up starter Rick Wamsley after suffering a muscle spasm in his right leg against the New York Rangers Jan. 2.

Montreal called up goalie Mark Holden from its American League farm team in Halifax, N.S.

Sevigny had won 10 games, lost four and tied two while posting a 3.23 goals-against average this year. Wamsley, who played in the last three games for the Habs, has a 2.96 average in nine games this season.
