Sebastian Coe and Steve Ovett, Britain's great rival middle distance runners and Olympic gold medalists, were made Members of the Order of the British Empire in recognition of world record performances -- Coe's 3 minutes 47.33 seconds in the mile and Ovett's 3 minutes 31.36 seconds in the 1500 meters.
Peter Saunders, producer of the Agatha Christie murder mystery, 'The Mousetrap,' now in the 30th year of its world record run, received a knighthood. Dame Ninette de Valois, 83, founder of the Royal Ballet, was named a Companion of Honor, one of the highest awards at the queen's disposal.
