Snow will be the order of the day in British Columbia, the prairies, parts of Ontario and Newfoundland today with generally cold temperatures throughout the country.

Environment Canada forecasts snow and temperatures of 2 and minus 2 degrees Celcius in Vancouver and Victoria.

In the territories, under cloudy skies, bitter cold temperatures are expected to continue, with a high of minus 37 and a low of minus 42 reported for Whitehorse and minus 35 and minus 38 in Yellowknife.

Snow is forecast for Banff, Calgary and Lethbridge, where temperatures are expected to range from minus 21 degrees to a low overnight of minus 28.

Jasper will be cloudy with a high of minus 20 and a low of minus 28; and clouds are expected in Edmonton and Regina along with temperatures of minus 22 and minus 30.

Winnipeg residents can expect sunny skies, but the mercury there will dip to minus 23 and minus 33.

Cloudy skies are expected for the last day of 1981 in Montreal and Ottawa along with temperatures of minus 4 and minus 6. It will be cloudy and a little colder in Quebec City, where temperatures are expected to dip to minus 6 and minus 8.

More snow is in the offing in Toronto where the overnight low of minus 3 is expected to hit the freezing mark during the day.

It will be sunny and cold in Fredericton, with temperatures of minus 7 and minus 15. Halifax residents will also enjoy sunny skies, with temperatures there expected to be between minus 3 and minus 9.

Snow is forecast for Charlottetown and St. John's. Temperatures in the Nova Scotia capital are expected to range from minus 3 to minus 9 and in St. John's from minus 3 to minus 5.
