LAUREL, Md. -- Donnie Miller Jr., the nation's winningest apprentice jockey, returned from an injury with a two-for-two day Thursday, including a victory in the featured $11,500 Spot Two Purse at Laurel Race Course.

Miller, 18, guided Toy Ploy to a 1 -length victory in a field of five fillies and mares to take his 278th win of the year, best in the nation for apprentice jockeys.

He also won the first race of the day aboard Snow Pro.

Toy Ploy covered the six furlongs in 1:13 to defeat Royal Passtime, who finished second two lengths ahead of Social Duty.

Miller injured his neck Monday when he was pinned between horses and unseated in the stretch while riding Red Sprite in the sixth race. He was tested for a possible concussion, but the only injury was a twisted neck.

As the favorite in the field in Thursday's feature, Toy Ploy paid $4.20, $2.60 and $2.20. Royal Passtime paid $3.40 and $2.80 for the place and Social Duty returned $3 to show. The 4-2 exacta was worth $13.40.
