SEATTLE -- A 16-year-old girl waiting to get into a Rolling Stones concert fell about 40 feet to her death from an outside pedestrian ramp on the Kingdome Thursday night, police said.

Pamela Lynn Melville of Renton, Wash., died in the operating room at Harborview Medical Center at 6:30 p.m., a hospital spokesman said.

Seattle Police Officer Pat Wright said Miss Melville apparently fell backwards from a concrete guard rail at the third of four levels of ramps along the outside of the domed stadium about 6:15 p.m. He said she may have been sitting on the rail.

While horrified Stones fans watched, she plunged into an asphalt loading area at the ground level, said Wright. An ambulance took her away almost immediately.

'The incident is being investigated as a tragic accident at this time,' he said.
