Alvin Holder, a senior at Peru State (Neb.), and...

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Alvin Holder, a senior at Peru State (Neb.), and Tom O'Toole, a senior at St. Ambrose (Iowa), lead the NAIA offensive statistics after the first full week of games.

Holder, who has played two games with Peru State this season, has totaled 398 yards to average 199.0 yards and lead the rushing category while O'Toole passed for 245 yards and ran for another 20 in St. Ambrose's opener to lead total offense with a 265.0 yard average.

Steve Wray, from Franklin (Ind.) threw for 271 yards in Franklin's first game to pace the passing column while Ted Thomas, a sophomore from Ottawa (Kan.) hauled in nine passes to top that category. Gary Worthy, of Wilmington (Ohio) scored four touchdowns and leads all NAIA scorers.

In kicking, Randy Ryakoski (Wisconsin-Stevens Point) kicked three field goals and three extra points to lead scoring by kickers. Steve Price, of Southwestern Oklahoma, has averaged 50.6 yards over 14 punts to lead punters. Tim Fox, from St. Mary of the Plains (Kan)., with a 46.5 average, is the leader in punt returns, and Steve Parker, of Abilene Christian, leads with a 49.5 kick return average.

In the team categories:

Norfolk State (Va.) leads in scoring offense with a 67.0 average with Guilford (N.C.), Southwest State (Minn.) and Southwest Texas State leading in team scoring defense with two shutouts each.

Carson-Newman (Tenn.) leads with a 592.0-yard average in total offense and also rushing offense with a 464.0 average. Arkansas Tech, with an average of 307.0 yards a game, leads in passing offense.

The team defense leaders are Wilmington (Ohio) (25.0 yards and minus-9 yards passing a game) and Northwood Institute (Mich.) (minus-37 yards rushing average).
