BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Vice President George Bush said Saturday he would remain neutral in a possible primary fight between his brother, Prescott Bush, and incumbent Sen. Lowell Weicker, R-Conn.
'I have never intervened in primaries,' Bush said at a news conference at Sacred Heart University, where he received an honorary doctor of laws degree.
'President Reagan has never intervened in primaries. What my brother decides to do is his business.'
Prescott Bush, a resident of Greenwich, has not formally announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for the Senate, but he is considered the favorite of the state party hierarchy, which has long warred with the maverick Weicker.
On another subject, the vice president reiterated his belief Congress will approve the sale of arms to Saudi Arabia despite mounting resistance to the proposal.
'He (Reagan) does know he is in for some tough battles on the Hill. I believe if we explain this properly it will pass,' he said.
