SINGAPORE -- Singapore Airlines didn't exactly hit the jackpot with its plan for slot machinese on some lengthy trans-Pacific flights.

All seven of the 'one-arm bandits' aboard the Aug. 25 inaugural flight broke down before the jet was halfway to San Francisco, an airline spokesman admitted today.

'The machines had to put up with a great demand from passengers,' he said. 'The pressure they underwent could have been the cause of the breakdown.'

The lightweight, battery operated slot machines are now in the United States for repair.
