GARY, Ind. -- The Danville, Calif., West team ousted Taiwan from the Senior Little League World Series with a 7-6 defeat Friday night, reaffirming its opening day victory over the Taiwan team.
This is the first year in nine Taiwan has not won the series.
Taiwan advanced to the semifinals against the West by defeating Aruba, 3-2, earlier Friday.
Danville's winning run came in the ninth inning when Jeff Saenger doubled and Bill Ross singled, sending Saenger to third. A sacrifice fly by Matt Lynch to right field drove in Saenger.
Lynch was the winner in relief. The losing pitcher was Kuo Chen-cheng.
Against Aruba, Taiwan hung on to victory despite a seventh-inning, two-run homer by losing pitcher Leonardo Geerman. The winning pitcher was Liu Chin-shin.
The West is winner in the loser's bracket and plays the winner's bracket champ East team from Georgetown, Del., Saturday. If the West wins, they play again, since it is a double-elimination series.
The East defeated Danville Thursday 2-1.
