NEW YORK -- CBS held its usual Nielsen lead by approximately the usual margin for last week's prime time horserace, but ABC posted the highest daytime rating ever in a normal viewing period for the week of Aug. 3-7.
The top prime time rating and audience share fell to CBS, with 14.7 and 27.9.
ABC posted 13.2 and 25.1 and NBC placed third with 11.9 and 22.5.
On the daytime soap opera and game show card for Aug. 3-7, however, it was ABC 10.0 and 35; CBS 6.8 and 24 and NBC 4.0 and 14.
ABC scored with the top six daytime programs -- led by 'General Hospital' -- for the week scored.
CBS's 'Evening News' hung onto first place last week, but only by the edge of a decimal point -- 10.8 and 24 to 10.7 and 24 for ABC's 'World News Tonight.' NBC's 'Nightly News' posted 10.0 and an audience share of 22.
The top 10 network programs for the week ending Aug. 16, according to the A.C. Nielsen Co., were:
1. Dukes of Hazzard (CBS).
2. M-A-S-H (CBS).
3. Trapper John, M.D.(CBS).
4. Three's Company (ABC).
5. The Jeffersons (CBS).
6. Too Close for Comfort (ABC).
7. Fantasy Island (ABC).
8. House Calls (CBS).
9. Dallas (CBS).
10. 60 Minutes (CBS).
