KENT, Ohio -- The Cleveland Browns today trimmed their roster to 60 players, cutting veterans Ron Crews and Clifton Odom and 12 free agents.

Crews was the backup to nose tackle Henry Bradley last season while Odom was a backup linebacker.

The Browns drafted Ron Simmons for the nose tackle position and, coupled with the presence of 1980 draft choice Marcus Jackson, who missed all of 1980 with a broken wrist, Crews never got much playing time in the three exhibition games this summer.

Odom, a third-round choice in 1980, spent the final eight games of last season on the injured reserve.

Most prominent among the 12 free agents cut was quarterback Doug Woodward of Pace University, who spent several weeks as a free agent with the Dallas Cowboys last summer before being cut.

His departure probably assures jack-of-all-trades Joe Restic a spot on the roster. Restic, a free agent from Notre Dame, can play either quarterback or defensive back, holds the ball on placements and is also listed as a backup punter.

Others cut were wide receivers Lee Haynes and David Booze, wide receiver-kick returner Ken Robinson, tight ends James Puhalski, Hubie Bond and Bob Lisowski, running back Henry Foster, linebacker Larry Savage, centers Dennis McKnight and Bruce Byrom and guard Steve Sybeldon.
