EDMONTON, Alberta -- Perry Lychak pitched a three-hitter Sunday to carry Canada to a 2-1 upset of defending champion Cuba at the Intercontinental Cup baseball tournament.
Bill McCullogh drove in Alex Podruzni to break a scoreless tie in the top of the eighth.
Doug McPhail then drove in McCullogh to make it 2-0.
Fernando Sanches knocked in Luis Casanova in the bottom of the inning for Cuba, whose record dropped to 2-1. Canada is 3-1.
The tournament's fourth day of play had one other upset as Australia (1-3) scored a 7-6 victory over Japan (1-2).
The Australians rallied for four runs in the first against Taheshi Ishii. They added two more in the fourth and scored the winning run in the fifth.
The undefeated United States (3-0) had to score in the bottom of the ninth to edge winless (0-4) Panama 3-2.
In the only other game played Sunday, South Korea (2-1) tagged Dominican Republic (2-2) starter Juan Ozorla with six runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to a 9-1 victory.
