HOUSTON -- Dr. Chuck Latourette, a former punter for the St. Louis Cardinals, survived a 150-foot plunge in his stalled hang glider and was in stable condition Thursday in the hospital where he is a staff radiologist.
Latourette, 36, underwent surgery in Sharpstown Hospital Wednesday for broken arms and ribs following the crash at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in a southwest Harris County field.
Witnesses said the motorized hang glider spun to the ground after it stalled at a height of 150 feet.
Latourette was an All-Southwest Conference defensive back and punter for Rice. He put himself through medical school by playing professionally for the Cardinals.
