NEW YORK -- The city's newest hotel, the Vista International, officially opened Wednesday in the World Trade Center complex.

The 23-story glass and aluminum structure, which will be operated by the Hilton chain, is the first major hotel to open in lower Manhattan since 1836.

The hotel is dwarfed by the twin 110-story towers of the center, prompting Mayor Edward Koch to say, 'I can't say that it's an important addition to our skyline because it's a trifle overshadowed by its immediate neighbors.'

The mayor officiated at opening ceremonies.
