BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The parents of a woman killed in the fiery crash of her Pinto last June Friday filed a $73.5 million lawsuit against Ford Motor Co.

The suit was filed in state Supreme Court in Buffalo by attorneys representing Stephen and Patricia Cofta, of Elma, N.Y.

Their daughter, Julie, 22, died in an auto accident last June 6, when a truck hit the rear of her 1976 Pinto, which burst into flames.

The lawsuit accuses Ford of negligence for alleged faulty design of the Pinto's fuel tank. The suit seeks $50 million in punitive damages and $23.5 million in compensatory damages.
