Former San Francisco tackle Cas Banaszek was hired by...

REDWOOD CITY -- Former San Francisco tackle Cas Banaszek was hired by the 49ers Friday as an assistant offensive line coach with emphasis on tight ends and run-blocking.

Banaszek played at Northwestern and was a first-round draft choice of the 49ers in the 1967 draft. He played offensive tackle for the 49ers from 1968 to 1977.

The 49ers also announced the signing of free agents John Balatti, a defensive end from Fresno State, Matt Bouza, a wide receiver from California, Alan Mitchell, a wide receiver out of Michigan, and Wilbert Haslip, a running back from Hawaii. Haslip played in 1979 and last season for the Kansas City Chiefs.
