YAKIMA, Wash. -- Michael Farris, state executive director of the Moral Majority, contends sending children to public schools amounts to 'parental malpractice.'

Farris said drugs, sex education programs and deficient basic education instruction has created chaos in the state's public schools.

'Public schools as we know them today will not survive another decade,' Farris, who sends his children to private Christian schools, told an audience in Davis High School Tuesday.

A band of 15 sign-carrying protesters marched outside the school while Farris was speaking.

'We are a group of people who are really concerned about the repressiveness the Moral Majority represents,' said Deborah Lazaldi of Ellensburg. 'Several of us have been following Farris's rampage across the state against sex education in the schools. I think his campaign against the state's schools and teachers smacks of McCarthyism.'

The Moral Majority earlier this year tried to learn the names of school districts or employees who checked out a certain sex education film from the state library.

Moral Majority of Washington also has launched a campaign to learn the details of all sex education programs being taught in the state's public schools.
