CLEARWATER, Fla. -- The Philadelphia Phillies Sunday traded left-handed pitcher Randy Lerch to the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for outfielder Dick Davis, the club announced.

The 26-year-old Lerch, a member of the Phillies for four years, had a disappointing 4-14 record last season during which he was named in a drug probe as one of a group of players from the Phillies' organization who received 'uppers' from a Reading, Pa., pharmacist.

Lerch testified in the investigation, which cleared the druggist of any wrongdoing, and admitted he took the drugs.

He fell into disfavor with manager Dallas Green and expressed an interest to be traded after he was dropped from the team roster for the league championship series and the World Series.

Davis, 27, batted .271 in 1980 for the Brewers in a utility role. He collected 26 doubles and batted .323 against left-handed pitching. He is expected to join the Phillies Tuesday when the full squad reports for its first day of workouts, a Phillies' spokesman said.
