PARAMARIBO, Surinam -- Authorities announced Thursday they have released former Prime Minister Henck Arron, jailed since a military coup toppled his regime nearly a year ago.

But Capt. Roy Horb, the South American country's prosecutor, said Arron was still being held responsible for corruption that allegedly occurred under his elected government.

Warrant officers toppled Arron from power last Feb. 25 and the former Dutch colony has been ruled since then by a joint military-civilian junta.
