MEDFIELD, Mass. -- TV news anchorman Lee Nelson, 52, a veteran of news shows in New York City, Maine and Massachusetts, died Tuesday of an apparent heart attack.
Nelson first worked in the 1950s and 1960s for Hildreth Broadcasting Co. in Maine, and in 1968 resigned as program director at WMTW in Poland Spring, Maine, to become anchorman and news director for WPIX-TV in New York City.
In 1971 he purchased a radio station in Sanford, Maine, and in 1972-73 was a newsman at WNAC-TV in Boston. He then did independent TV work, including several programs for public broadcasting, and at the time of his death was anchorman at WSMW-TV in Worcester, Mass.
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in United Church of Christ, Medfield.
