LONDON -- Christina Onassis may be planning to marry Philippe Junot, former husband of Princess Caroline of Monaco, the News of the World said Sunday.

The newspaper noted the 40-year-old French playboy was divorced from Caroline in October, three months after the thrice-divorced Greek shipping queen ended her two-year marriage to Soviet shipping official Sergei Kausov.

The newspaper said some Paris matchmakers were predicting wedding bells next year.

It said Christina, 30, has known Junot for seven years 'and the rivalry between her and Caroline has been an open secret among the international caviar and champagne set.'

'She is said to have had a crush on businessman Junot since before his marriage to the princess.'

Kausov, the paper said, stated recently that he believed Christina proposed to him because she was jealous of Caroline's royal wedding.

'I married her because she asked me and because I liked her,' it quoted Kausov. 'Also, Russians like fat women and Christina is fat.'

Christina and Junot have been seen together frequently in the past eight weeks, the News of the World asserted, and at a recent party in New York, 'they had eyes only for each other.'

It quoted a guest as saying 'Christina and Philippe withdrew to a corner and sat down, deep in conversation, oblivious to the rest of us.'

'After a while, Philippe took her hand and held it tenderly. For a fleeting moment, he put his arm around her shoulders.'
