WINNIPEG -- Peter Enns is having problems suing an RCMP officer for shooting his son, Lyle Dean Enns, because the force has not divulged the location of the officer.

'We were stunned when we got the letter from the force,' said lawyer Paul Walsh Sunday after learning the police will not reveal the whereabouts of Const.

Walsh said he will take the RCMP to court to force them to reveal Grimm's address.

The younger Enns, who was 18 years old, died of gunshot wounds in August, 1979 when Grimm and other officers were searching the family farm near Sidney, Man., about 120 kilometers west of Winnipeg.

RCMP Assistant Commissioner A.T. McHaffie confirmed the force's refusal to reveal where Grimm was, but said if the proper legal papers were submitted the RCMP would serve him.

An inquest revealed that Enns was shot seconds after he killed a police dog which had been set loose on him. The father was asking for unspecified damages under the Fatal Accidents Act and the Trustees Act.
