CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- American Biltrite Inc., manufacturer of industrial rubber, plastic and footwear products, has announced the closing of its East Cambridge plant by next July.
The move, announced this week, will mean the loss of 200 jobs. Work presently done at the 800,000-square-foot facility will be transfered to plants in Paragould, Ark., and Hohenwald, Tenn.

Biltrite spokesman Gerald Weinstein said it was no longer possible to manufacture products efficiently in the Cambridge location because the building was outmoded.
Rubber goods have been produced at the 12-acre site since the 1890s when Boston Woven Hose Co. began manufacturing bicycle tires there.
