LOS ANGELES -- MacKenzie Phillips was granted a divorce from rock group promoter Jeffrey Sessler, but the actress must temporarily pay her ex-husband $500 a month alimony.
Miss Phillips, 20, who played Julie Cooper in the 'One Day At A Time' television series, said Thursday she felt 'fantastic' after Superior Court Judge Frances Rothschild formally ended the marriage.
'I'm so glad I'm divorced,' she added.
Sessler, 26, and Miss Phillips, daughter of singer John Phillips of the old Mamas and Papas group, were married in August 1979. They had no children and separated last March.
After the separation Sessler said he was suffering financially and asked that Miss Phillips pay him $2,000 a month alimony for five months. A judge ordered the actress to pay him $500 a month for three months.
Another hearing will be held in February to determine if permanent alimony payments should be made.
