President Carter has gotten a razzing from cartoonists and others on his statement in the recent debate with Ronald Reagan that he had asked his daughter, Amy, what was the most important issue facing the country.

He said she replied, 'Nuclear weaponry.'

But a White House aide said that Amy's class had been debating the big issues of the day, and one day the 13-year-old asked her father what a megaton was.

When he described the lethal wallop of a megaton to her, she decided it was indeed an important issue, the aide said.

Ridicule of Carter's statement has been widespread. Immediately after the debate, a new bumper sticker showed up, reading: 'Ask Amy, she knows.'
