HOLLYWOOD -- A 1925 poster advertising a silent Walt Disney cartoon has been sold for $5,400 _ nearly three times the amount it cost the young animator to create the movie.

Auctioneer Malcolm Willits said Thursday that the rare 27 by 41 inch poster advertising 'Alice in the Jungle' was purchased by an ardent Disney collector from the San Francisco Bay area.

The poster, which originally sold for 10 cents, attracted the highest price ever paid for such an advertisement, the auctioneer said.

The silent cartoon cost Disney about $1,900 to produce.

Willits said the value of the first Mickey Mouse poster _ 'Steamboat Willie' released in 1928 _ is beyond estimation.

'None has ever turned up,' he said. 'If one did, its price would be incalculable.'
